Fantasy Football 2011–2012: Final Score
This year the league was once again hotly contested with Epix staff dominating the top of the table. Dave Pennock of Willmott Dixon Group narrowly squeezed last year's winner Michael Gingell of Steele Davis into second place. We will try and deliver the prize in person later this summer, which will be both a blessing and a curse – as well as getting his prize he will have to put up with a visit from Stephen! Dave uses our Construction Purchasing Software which probably explains how he found time to manage such a successful team throughout the year, but he was still shocked to have achieved such success this year.
My first year in charge of Sandringham FC has certainly been a memorable one! The players have worked extremely hard over the course of the season. My support staff have been fantastic, including the wife, who on many a night, have spent hours discussing tactics over a glass of wine. The fans have played their part with consistent attendance throughout the season and their patience with some of my tactical decisions has been greatly appreciated.
We had a couple of months where we dropped some silly points in certain gameweeks, our worst position being 15th in Sept, which I take full responsibility as I tried to work out a formation that worked with the players I had at the time. However, it was only one of 4 times we actually fell outside the top 6 of the monthly gameweek points, which obviously kept us on course and reflects on our final position. We finished the season on a high as May was our highest gameweek point finish as we took No.1 spot beating 3rd place Red Hope by 4 clear points.
Im very proud and excited at the thought of playing European club football next year, the players are currently taking a well deserved break, with the exception of those on international duties in Poland & Ukraine for Roy.
The rest of the team will reconvene on the 2nd July for pre season training when the dates for the pre season friendlies will also be published.
Lets hope next season will bring some silverware!
(aged 32 - young manager of the year 2010/11)
Chris won the internal crown for the second year running, but in the real world Blackburn Rovers were relegated so he won't be celebrating until they get rid of their awful manager. He is hoping that failure after long perseverance is much grander than never to have a striving good enough to be called a failure, but George Eliot probably said it better.
I would obviously like to draw some analogies between our collective performance in the league and the high quality of our software, but nothing springs to mind. However, trailing in last place I think Karl Roberts only has himself to blame and I'll try not to mention that he works for DLP Services. He was heard earlier in the season to be explaining that he was concentrating his time on building his reputation for service delivery rather than wasting his time on a silly game.
DLP's engineers are using our Android Mobile Working Solution which enables realtime updates direct from engineers. Karl will probably blame the amount of information he has to manage for his poor performance, but the dynamic dashboard built into our hosted back office software displays all the information in fully customisable widgets to make his life easier, so he really has no excuse.
