My very first day at EPIX began with a disaster – I entered at what I thought was a bright and early 8:25 (thinking I was five minutes early) but was disappointed to find that I was actually twenty five minutes late!
Thankfully, everyone was understanding of my mistake, and I’ve been on time every day since.
Ella introduced herself and the welcome pack that she made for us, and I was also introduced to Pat and Madi, the assigned mentors for me and the other new apprentice, Rohan. The tasks in the welcome pack prepared us for our real responsibilities at EPIX, with exercises ranging from setting up our Gmail accounts to developing a mobile app.
Some of the exercises were more difficult, but I found myself fascinated by all the new things I was learning, and I can only imagine how much I have yet to learn! Our mentors were so helpful, not only explaining the technical aspects of the tasks, but also telling us about their own first weeks and how the apprenticeship experience works.
My first week was not what I would expect the first week to be like at most offices, with trips to the notorious Room 14 and team lunches out, but the friendly and close knit atmosphere at EPIX is what led me to apply for a role here, and it’s just as lovely as I imagined.
One highlight of the first week was going to Junkyard Golf with the team. Despite my ineptitude (I came last in my team…) it really helped dissipate any remaining nerves about being a newbie and was a really fun experience.
This first week was just a stepping stone onto the next four years of my life, and it has only increased my enthusiasm and excitement to work at EPIX!
