Learn how to structure blogs in the first Madi Investigates.
There are many advantages to writing a blog. It’s casual, simple and you never have to worry about anybody reading it. So, here it is, the first step in our investigative journey together.

Good use of clickbait.
I’m a new apprentice here at EPIX. Having read through most of our blog posts I knew I wanted to write one, if only to prove that good SPAG does exist in this company (no, not the bolognese kind, although I would not be surprised). I will hopefully be taking you on an informative roadtrip of useful and interesting things; similar to those smart people on CBeebies, but slightly more about cake. I hope that while Chris sorts your questions, I can solve your boredom for one afternoon a month, or perhaps quench your desire for random facts and occasional puns. Either way, welcome to the first of many, Madi Investigates!
Today’s topic: what makes a good blog?
Surely you have read enough about the mobile app already? I want to inspire you with new content. If we are to continue this adventure together, I will be writing quite often, so finding out how to format my future blogs seems like the perfect topic to start with. Here’s what I’ve learnt:
Title
Amongst the most popular title types are: listicles (eg ‘11 best cat fails’), how-tos, and where/what/why styles. These have a clear and recognisable format that have proved popular within the blog-world. Using emotional keywords appeals to the unconscious side of our human brains, making people more likely to click on your blog. Negative emotions are known to trigger a psychological reaction, however humour is a strong persuader often used in marketing campaigns.
Subheadings
Subheadings are very important for information-heavy blogs. It allows people to find the content they are looking for easily and breaks up what could otherwise be a huge chunk of text. They should always be relevant!
Content
The good cush – this is what you want to draw your reader into. Some of the most popular blog contents are: travel, food & drink, lifestyle tips, and gardening. When writing the piece, every paragraph should be an advert for the next one. Making sure that there is some personality in the text will help keep the reader interested. Shoutmeloud.com suggests that being yourself while you write will not only help the readers connect with your writing, but also make writing easier for you.
There may be many more tips and tricks I didn’t get a chance to explore, and of course every blog is unique, but hopefully we will get to use this knowledge for our future blogs.
