If someone had told me back in college that in a few years I would be entering the final year of an apprenticeship degree, I don’t think I would have believed them. Jump forward to today and I am in the fourth year of my course at MMU, as well as my fourth year working as an apprentice developer at EPIX.
The last three years have been an adventure – beginning my apprenticeship amidst a global pandemic and juggling a degree on top of working full time. It has certainly been a new experience and pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I wouldn’t have changed a minute of it. I have learnt many new skills, made new friends, and developed not only as a developer but also as a person.
Learning so many new skills across the last three years I see as a huge achievement. However, there are always areas to improve and in the upcoming year I am facing my biggest workload yet.
One of the skills I have worked on the most during my degree is time management. I didn’t realise I needed to work on this before, but I had never had such a large workload and had therefore never thought about how I would approach it.
I now know I can manage my work this year as EPIX and MMU have given me opportunities and support to develop my time management skills – as well as other skills such as communication and teamwork.
As I progress through this final year I’m looking forward to expanding my skill set and continuing to work on myself while working at EPIX. As anyone can probably guess, I am also excited to be graduating university as well as continuing my journey and growth as a developer with EPIX.
